Kenley’s Big Bed

Two weekends ago, we decided we would finally tear down the crib (insert tears here) and put up Kenley’s big bed. We really talked it up! All week we talked about her new bed, and how she was getting to be SO big to be able to sleep in a bed like Brayden’s.

I’ll admit, I cried thinking about it two days before. That crib has been set up for OVER 4.5 years, in the same spot, and where both of my sweet babies laid their heads for two years each. Brandon and my sister kept reassuring me that this was a GOOD thing, and the crib could always be put back up! (Don’t get excited there…)

6 months ago I picked out her bedding (sheets from Pottery Barn Kids, duvet cover from IKEA) and even though I still was a bit sad, it made me SO happy to see how cute her bed turned out. I couldn’t wait for her to see it! After we were done setting everything up and the kids came home from Papa and Grandma’s, I took Kenley in to see her new bed. She said “thank you!” and then looked up at me so sweetly and said “no baby anymore.”

Yes, Kenley, you aren’t a baby anymore.

The transition wasn’t seamless– the second night, she got sick in the middle of the night, and the following night, refused to be put to bed. After 2.5 hours, she finally caved, and the night after that? She did awesome. The next night? Up at 4:30am and in our bed but two nights ago she stayed in bed the entire night. It’s hit or miss but she is getting more used to the idea, so that is good!

Another new addition to Kenley’s bed is this adorable handmade quilt made by Tess from Backroads Mama. It is the perfect size for her and her baby, and the fabric patterns are stunning. She has several other gorgeous (and bigger) ones in her shop! From now until Friday, all of the Ready to Ship quilts in her shop are 15% off with the code BASICALLYJULIE. (Just don’t buy  my favorite one! Kidding… kind of.)

Tess is a wife and SAHM to two boys and loves having a creative outlet for the winter months. The rest of the year, she is inspired by photography (which is another reason that I love her, we share that love!) and her love of all things vintage. Make sure you go check out her shop!

The other new blanket that Kenley has on her big girl bed is one my mom made. Kenley kept telling us she was getting a Frozen bed (and I have no idea why she would think that!) but since I already had the bedding and character bedding isn’t my thing, I was on the hunt for a blanket. JUST A FROZEN BLANKET. It was becoming impossible, as everywhere I could find fabric, it was sold out. Thankfully, my mom was able to get some, and made this for her.

She was SO excited for this blanket, since her our obsession with this movie is starting to be over the top.

I still can’t believe it is time for this milestone, because in my mind, she IS my baby! She looks so cute sleeping in her big bed, and I hope she gets more comfortable with it.  At first, I was really irritated that she was in our bed, but I am trying to cherish it. Those snuggles won’t last forever, and I am sure that she needs some comfort.

Next changes for Kenley? Potty training and kicking the pacifier. Wish me luck!
