Life Lately

Kenley is getting her two year molars, making her not the most fun to be around. Poor girl. Bedtime Sunday night took FOREVER. She would just not give it up. We rocked and swayed and patted backs and comforted and did Orajel and Tylenol, and finally, after over an hour, she was asleep. She’s not as easy to snuggle and rock since she is getting SO big, but oh, how I tried to soak it in even though I was lost as to what to do for her. She woke up happy yesterday, but nap time was a struggle. After two failed attempts at her sleeping in her crib, I decided to snuggle her in our bed so she could get some rest.

I am so glad I did. It was so nice (yet hot! my littles are ovens!) to just hold her, snuggle her, rub her back, and rest with her. I can’t even remember the last time she slept on my chest. She’s such a sweet, cuddly girl–but boy, her molars are just making her hurt.

Brayden has been being just a typical 4 year old— lots of whining lately, pouting, almost tantrums. I have spent more time explaining to him why he should tell me why he is upset as opposed to stomping off. I am trying to put on my “patient mommy mode” but the outbursts are totally wearing on me. When he isn’t upset about something (it’s really not THAT often, but more than normal) he is content playing with his Planes toys, helping Kenley play alongside him, being outside, and figuring out the world. He is so inquisitive. He has to know exactly what is going on, all the time, and why. I tease Brandon, because he is the exact same way. Always has to know what’s going on. It’s just amazing to witness Brayden learning about his world.

Brayden goes back to school next Thursday. After the preschool he went to last year unfortunately closed, we had quite the decision to make. Send him to the public preschool in town and then to Kindergarten right after he turns 5, or send him to a private preschool at our church for two more years, then send him to Kindergarten at age 6. It literally took almost all summer for us to decide. I was mostly ok with him going to preschool in town (5 days a week, 7:45-10:45am) but there was still part of me that just thought that was too much. He would end up being the absolute youngest in his class (thanks to his late July birthday) for the rest of his school career, just like I was. Truthfully, I hated that.  I was the youngest in my class, turning 18 after my first WEEK at college. After much thought and prayer, we decided to send him to the private school at our church. He will go two days a week from 8:30-11:30, and I am very much at peace with that decision. He will start Kindergarten at age 6 here in town, and I am glad we get another year of only 2 days a week! Kenley would happily go to school with Brayden, so we’ll see how she does with just mommy for a couple of hours a week!
